The M249 is an American light machine gun. It is unlocked at Rank 20.
Description
The M249 sports the largest magazine size in BattleBit Remastered clocking in at a big 100 rounds per mag. Due to how big the magazines are for the Light Machine Gun class, very few reserve magazines are available. However, this is usually not an issue thanks to the heavy ammo boxes that the Support class has access to. This best-in-class magazine comes at a cost to the M249 in its slow reload time of 6.67 seconds without any attachments.
Due to the considerable size of the weapon, the M249 inflicts a base 10% movement speed penalty to the player, making it harder to use for aggressive play than other support weapons. The M249 also has a good firerate at 700 RPM and a respectable 30 damage per bullet, mirroring the M4A1 in it's 351 DPS, however the M249 has a big amount of horizontal recoil at 1.30 without attachments in trade for less vertical recoil at 1.10 compared to the M4A1.
To make the most out of this weapon, it is recommended to find a building or make a position that has good coverage over highly contested or big traffic areas to minimize the need to reposition. Additionally, the Support class offers incredibly strong building abilities, letting the player create effective cover to lay down big suppressive fire.

It is highly recommended to use attachments that give the M249 a big improvement in horizontal recoil and reload speed.

Trivia
- The M249 is one of only four guns in the game with fully modeled cartridges in the magazine. The model also reflects the remaining rounds in the belt, although the M249's belt is not modeled and will erroneously have empty links remaining when the gun is emptied.
