In-Game
General Overview
The UMP-45 is one of two Submachine Guns (SMGs) available right from the start, the other being the MP7. Damage is highest in-class, dealing a three-shot kill to the body up close against no armored opponents—the only SMG capable of doing so. Range is also fairly good for its class given the better damage model, retaining its three-shot kill out to 50 meters. Rate of fire is slowest in-class however, at 600 RPM. Muzzle velocity is mediocre, at 375 meters per second. This results in the UMP-45 having a spritely time to kill at shorter distances, but will lose potency at longer ranges.
Magazine capacity is worst in-class, at 25 rounds. Reload times are conversely quite spritely, tied with the PP19 for fastest in-class at 3.10 seconds for a normal tactical reload. Recoil is relatively mild—higher amongst the SMG category but controllable by most automatic weapon standards. Other handling traits such as aim time, running speed, are of the SMG default.
Usage and Tips
The UMP-45 occupies the 'slow-firing, hard-hitting' option within the SMG category. On top of its three-shot kill to the body up close, it will kill with three headshots even against heavy armored enemies and only becomes a five-shot kill past 80 meters. All other SMGs require six or seven shots at this distance. The UMP-45 therefore offers a high degree of lethality within close-quarters-combat (CQC) but with much more reach than its peers. However, it is hindered by its low magazine capacity, marginally higher recoil and sluggish firerate. It demands users are proficient with their aim and disciplined with their trigger. The UMP-45 favours accurate stopping power above all, rather than volume of fire as with the likes of the PP2000 or Kriss Vector. It will perform better in one-on-one engagements rather than taking on clusters of enemies head-on.
Regarding strategies and tactics, the UMP-45 is still best used at closer ranges. Whilst it holds its own for an SMG at 50-60 meters, past 100 meters it loses out to the Automatic Rifles. Its SMG grade handling and mobility mean more aggressive playstyles focusing on flanking offense are well suited. Focusing on attacking key choke points and cramped objective areas undetected play to the weapon's strengths. Attachment wise, the low-powered optics are preferable to aid target acquisition. Grips and barrel attachments can assist recoil mitigation, the latter also can improve muzzle velocity and extend the UMP-45's reach.
Conclusion
The UMP-45 is a solid choice within the SMG category, with high stopping power and good handling. Its drawbacks do limit its effectiveness but it remains an extremely potent weapon in capable hands.
