In-Game

General Information

The MK20 is the first designated marksman rifle (DMR) unlocked in-game. Damage is typical for its class, dealing a three-shot kill up close increasing to a five-shot kill at the end of its damage drop-off. Range is excellent, its three-shot kill range being second-best to the M110. Muzzle velocity is best in-class, at 1100 meters per second. Rate of fire (RoF) conversely is second-slowest in its class, at 350 RPM. With body shots the MK20 has the slowest time-to-kill out of any DMR up close, although it performs better at longer ranges.

Reload times whilst average for automatic weapons, is best in-class, taking 3.76 seconds to perform normal tactical reload. Magazine capacity is low for an automatic weapon but generous for a DMR at 16 rounds, tied for highest capacity in-class with the MK14 EBR. Recoil is also quite low, with mild vertical and horizontal kick. Most handling characteristics such as aim time and running speed are average for its class, being slightly better than the M110.

Usage & Tips

The MK20 serves as the introductory DMR—relatively easy to use but lacks any specialization. As for all DMRs the MK20 is best employed over long sightlines, often in a defensive role. Its high damage and muzzle velocity makes it well fit for such use. By contrast the extremely slow firerate hurts the MK20 at shorter distances as does its handling. Users should avoid congested areas of the map where possible, switching to their sidearm when necessary.

Whilst recoil is less present when compared to other DMRs, users should still make use of the barrel and grip attachments available to mitigate recoil. Precision is key with the DMRs, and reducing weapon kick will aid in landing consecutive shots on target, yielding more consistent kills. Optics also provide great benefit in this regard, the likes of the ACOG, M125 or any medium range optic is worth equipping. To make most out of the MK20 requires headshots, which reduce shots to kill and subsequently time to kill.

Conclusion

The MK20 is a capable long-range DMR, comparable to the M110. It sacrifices better damage for better all-round performance. Users who are less experienced with the game may prefer the versatility it provides.

History

The Mk 20 Mod 0 Sniper Support Rifle (SSR) is the United States military designation given to the FN SCAR-H TPR (Tactical Precision Rifle), a Belgian semi-automatic marksman rifle designed and manufactured by renowned firearms company FN Herstal.[1] The Mk 20 is effectively an accurized version of the SCAR-H (designated as Mk 17), with modifications to optimize it in a marksman role.[2] It features a longer 20-inch heavy barrel, designed to reduce barrel whip and improve precision and accuracy.[3] It also sports an extended receiver and handguard both with Picatinny rails, an enhanced two-stage trigger, and a fixed stock with adjustable butt-plate and cheek rest. It shares 60% parts commonality with its parent SCAR-H design.[3][4] The Mk 20 was developed in 2009, and production began in 2010. It was adopted into service the same year by US Special Operations Command (SOCOM). It has since been adopted in limited numbers by other forces.[5]

Trivia

  • The MK20 in real life does not have 16-round magazines available. It is issued with the same 20-round box magazine used by the SCAR-H, although 10-round magazines are available.[6]
